Vandals go on wrecking spree in village
VANDALS slashed dozens of car tyres and broke windows as they went on a wrecking spree in South Cerney.
Residents of the village woke up to find the damage caused by vandals in the early hours of Easter Sunday.
Thirty cars had their tyres slashed and windows were broken throughout the village - including at the village hall and the scout hut.
Vehicles parked on The Leaze, The Lennards, Box Bush Road, Berkeley Close and High Street were all damaged. Cars parked in driveways were ignored by the vandals.
Residents found Police Aware stickers on their cars after the attacks - which was believed to have taken place between 2am and 4am.
Sgt Garrett Gloyn of Cirencester police said: "We have got two police staff with contacts in the village working on two lines of enquiry at the moment.
"They are investigating whether it was a local offender or whether these incidents are possibly linked to an event that took place with an influx of visitors over the weekend."
Anyone with information about the vandalism is asked to contact Gloucestershire Police on 0845 090 1234.
"Most vehicles suffered from destruction of one tyre although some suffered multiple attacks," said one resident.
"Most people woke to see Police Aware stickers on their cars but few received any direct contact with the police."
Mike Stuart, chairman of South Cerney Parish Council, said: "It seems absolutely peculiar.
"We have never had anything like this before in South Cerney.
"Just thinking of the cost to repair all this doesn't bear thinking about.
"What possesses someone to do this sort of thing?"
