MP is a climate hero
Swindon South MP Anne Snelgrove
Swindon South MP Anne Snelgrove

SOUTH Swindon MP Anne Snelgrove has been praised as a "climate hero".

Mrs snelgrove became the latest to add her signature to a pledge aimed at strengthening the UK's Climate Change Bill.

Her actions were praised by members of the I Count campaign which brings together more than 70 organisations to push for stronger legislation on climate change.

The parliamentary petition called for the bill to set a tougher 80 per cent target for cutting carbon dioxide by 2050, as well as including the UK's contribution to pollution from air and sea travel.

Mrs snelgrovesaid: "The Climate Change Bill is a bold but necessary move to tackle climate change and confirms the UK government as global leaders in getting carbon emissions under control.

"However, to be effective the targets in the bill must be set according to current scientific thinking and account for emissions from international aviation and shipping."

I Count is mobilising a Climate Change Bill Week between March 30 and April 5.

"The Climate Change Bill is a bold but necessary move to tackle climate change"

*sigh*

'tackle' climate change? Stop it? A climate that has been changing for billions of years. What is the objective here, find some 'ideal' climate that humans deem to be correct?

Humans really believe they control the climate - putting the absurdity of that aside - I have never seen anyone address the obvious point of what exactly they are trying to do. Plus the fact that humans may not be changing anything at all and the aspect that 'Global Warming' was swapped for 'climate change' when it was realised that warming did not fit and the other term meant that ANYTHING can be blamed on climate change. And the 'evidence' is so full of holes and inconsistent!

None of it makes sense!

So Mrs Snelgrove is a hero for signing a piece of paper?
Send it here, I want to be a hero too!

it allways used to be CARBON MONOXIDE , now its CARBON DIOXIDE , what term will be dreamed up next by these people in govt to be used for the cause of atmospheric pollution and climate change .

where i live was once a reef at the bottom of the sea, and it was a tropical climate here millions of years ago .

the original climate here was not a cold one , but a warm one .

the earth FROZE and is now returning to its NORMAL state by thawing out .

i would like to see some proof from the government that explains what actually happened from the pre historic times up until now to say that this part of the world was naturally in a colder climate than it is today , because it is simply not true .

you only have to look at history books or go the the natural history museum to be aware that this planet was not ice capped in the first place .

we in england may be taking action against so called climate change, but it requires the whole world to do the same as well, and as far as i can see from the waste that china and india put out , we are facing a losing battle .

and who may i ask are one of the biggest consumers and also more importantly the worlds biggest importers>exporters of chinese produced goods .

yes you guessed it ENGLAND .

in one hand we take it and in the other we throw it out .

Good old Anne.... you show her a bandwagon and she'll hop on like a shot... especially if it's being driven by her good friend Gordon!

Climate change hero indeed!!!! Great Britain produces 2% of the worlds emissions that are said to be warming the planet. Considering the ultra industrialisation in China and India the Climate Change Bill has about as much significance as another meaningless piece of paper that Mr Chamberlain bought back from Munich. I would also like one of Brown's stooges to explain to me why the planet has recorded record drops in temperature, some of the heaviest snowfall globally and a 30% increase in the ice sheets in the South Pole. Could it be something to do with a decrease in the violent solar activity which has been recorded ove the last decade? All the Climate Change Bill is going to do is saddle us with yet more taxation, and boy of boy ain't the pips squeaking!

NOTE TO LABOUR

"climate change" cannot be effected by simply increasing taxes on things deemed to be environmentally unheathy

This just raises tax revenues, whilst people continue with the same behaviour.

We also live on a small island. We contribute very little to emmisions. China, India, the USA all show no desire to change their habits, making us reducing our emmisions totally f***ing pointless.

And if they were serious about so called climate change why have they allowed another terminal at Heathrow? It's all about revenue isn't it!

I am disgusted at the Adver for printing such utter b*llocks. Anne Snelgrove MP is no more a climate "hero" than anyone else - all she has done is sign a piece of paper. If she represented Swindon properly she could make such a difference but she would rather follow Gordon (tax people to death and beyond) brown instead.

Her voting record is appalling, she leaps on the nearest bandwagon and now the Swindon Advertiser is acting as her personal Campaign manager.

My subscription cancellation is on it's way. We don't need to read this cr*p. Either give us "proper" news or just print community events. Biased support for any political party is wrong. Carry on and see how many readers you lose.

Anne Snelgrove MP - climate zero

T5 is for increased passenger capacity - not extra flights.

Clearly this pledge is something that Gordon Brown is keen to add his name to.

Dear old would never have signed it otherwise.

Climate SOUTH Swindon MP Anne Snelgrove has been praised as a "climate hero".

I note the article makes no reference to exactly who has described her as a 'climate hero'.

Presumably the person from her office who put together this shabby and misleading little press release.

I'd be surprised if Anne manages to get her deposit back at the next election at this rate.

Not sure which is the most incredible; The fact that some still seem unconvinced by the evidence that we have been responsible for causing abnormal climate change, or the fact that A.S. could be seen as a hero by anyone - least of all her constituents.

I think you spelt shot wrong, it's got an I not an O in it!

What about all the roads that have been constructed under Labour (old and new) and all the green field sites and flood plains that have been built on!

I read an article blaming it on farting old cows, but I'm sure the hot air from Anne Snailgroove will increase the El Niño effect!

Come on good people Anne really has helped lower emmissions. Just think of the petrol we no longer use to go to the post office. Not necessary now as the Führer has closed them with the help of ..... Darling Anne

So, the people that created the 'pledge' were complimentary about those who signed it.

Typical Labour press release.

In breaking news, PETA said it was good that some people didn't drown puppies for kicks.

I am getting increasingly annoyed with these meaningless press releases from Anne 'Bandwagon' Snellgrove and the advertiser for publishing them.

This is the same person who voted to scrap the Post Offices in Swindon (despite pledging to fight to keep them open!) prefer to see actions rather than words.

How about making a start with Ministerial car journeys , Anne!

Is there nothing this odious woman will not do to court publicity whilst totally ignoring the views of the people of Swindon?
This woman is so out of touch with reality it's almost beyond belief. I say almost because the labour party as a whole seem to be the same as Snelgrove.
I just wish the Adver would ignore her and leave us to discuss matters that she has little interest in such as Post Office closures, drinking hours, education, local taxation, etc etc.

Yep. Pretty much. Almost like the arms companies claiming Anne is a world peace hero because she voted for replacing Trident - equally stupid at any rate.

The parliamentary petition called for the bill to set a tougher 80 per cent target for cutting carbon dioxide by 2050, as well as including the UK's contribution to pollution from air and sea travel.

Cutting CO2, why oh why is the Government totally ignoring a far greater greenhouse gas, dihydrogen-monoxide?

As the temperature of the Earth's surface and atmosphere increases, the atmosphere is able to hold more dihydrogen-monoxide. The additional dihydrogen-monoxide, acts as a greenhouse gas, absorbing energy that would otherwise escape to space, causing further warming.
Yet massive amounts are emitted as a greenhouse gas quite legally by agriculture and industrial cleaning operations, it is used as an industrial solvent and coolant and in nuclear power stations, and it is all released directly into the atmosphere without any regulations what so ever.
Are people aware that thermal variations in dihydrogen-monoxide are a suspected contributor to the El Nino weather effect; it’s associated with killer cyclones, is also a major ingredient in acid rain and measurable levels have been found in ice samples taken from both the Arctic and Antarctic ice caps.

So why is Annie not shouting about cutting back on this gas? No bandwagon to ride here? Or are the kings of industry and commerce forcing the Government to overlook this issue as it’s too expensive to find an alternative solution?
I well recall aerosol manufacturers claiming it would be too expensive to ban cfc’s, but it happened and we are all still using aerosol cans.

So come on Annie and all your green living cronies, give us the whole truth, not just the bits that will stop us little people from enjoying ourselves.

I guess this press release back fired then. I share the view that nothing humans do is going to dramatically affect the cyclical changes in our climate. But if it makes people feel better to believe it I suppose it's good for them.

In the interests of a balanced view from the new editor at the Adver, I look forward to seeing headlines along the lines of "MP does the dirty on Swindon Post Offices in order to put her party first" or "MP ignores her manifesto pledge AND the will of the people on EU Treaty and supports the party line to oppose a referendum" or "MP turns her back on common sense and supports ID Cards" I could go on.....

Come on Adver, let's have some balance and moderation in the reporting here. Otherwise your credibility will go down the same toilet as Snelgrove's has.

Im not being funny here but surely all Ms Snelgrove has done is sign a petition to her own government. Bizarre. We elect you to make these decisions for us as the government. You seem to have petitioned yourself.
Heroic indeed

Mrs snelgrove became the latest to add her signature to a pledge aimed at strengthening the UK's Climate Change Bill.

That's a rather vague bit of reporting. Presumably it refers to Early Day Motion 736 which Anne Snelgrove signed recently? Whilst I applaud her for signing this EDM (and you won't find me applauding her very often), signing an EDM is little more than a symbolic gesture, and hardly makes her worthy of the title "climate hero".

What really counts is when the Climate Change Bill comes before parliament and the MPs vote to approve it as-is or to make amendments to it.

At this critical stage, will she insist on, for example, the inclusion of international aviation and shipping in the emissions targets, or will she continue to follow the party line and vote for the bill exactly as presented?
